Selecting a primary candidate. Based on photo downloaded from user chayka1270 on Pixabay, labeled as “free for commercial use, no attribution required”.
Primary season is upon us, and it is time to select which of the many candidates to support. As a registered Democrat, I get to choose from a wide array of presidential candidates—and even more when you look at all the other elections we will be having in November.
There are plenty of criteria to look for. Where does the candidate stand on the various issue. How progressive are they—and how electable are they. Can they be trusted.
One of the most important things that I will be looking for, is a candidate who acknowledges that half the electorate did actually vote for Trump, and that at least 40% of Americans approve of him. A candidate who actually understands why Trump’s approval ratings have gone up in the past months, not down. Someone who realizes that Trump supporters are not all racist, are not all stupid, and who understands why many upstanding, honest citizens think that Trump is at least an OK president.
Because until the Left, as a group, starts to get through their thick heads that Trump is not just getting support from a few extremist, that that his base is made up of Americans, and start understanding why those Americans are supporting this president, we are not going to get anywhere in this country.
One thing I have realized is that left-leaning Democrats are viewed as elitist snobs, and they sure behave like that. Only last weekend we saw that in the response to the president’s praise for the ”great state of Kansas” after the Superbowl. And yes, it was painful for someone who is entrusted with the office of President of the United States to make such a blunder. But let’s be honest, there are millions and millions of Americans who are not intimately familiar with the two cities named Kansas City, and still millions and millions more who might have heard about this but could have made the same mistake. And when you realize that, you also start to understand how see how people feel hurt by the left’s comments.
