The Democrats have done it again. They have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. It seems to be their specialty.

Democrats had an opportunity to highlight all the problems with Trump. They had the stage, the had the attention. Instead they focused narrowly on one item, one phone call, which of course was easy enough to deflect with a “no big deal” argument.

The president’s lawyers were totally right that the House dropped the ball with the subpoenas. They should have sued every single person who refused to testify, they should have sued for every document the administration refused to hand over. And they should have pushed very hard to fast-track the litigation.

Couldn’t they have drawn up their Articles of Impeachment even before the litigation had run its course? Because with the pending court cases in hand, their argument of obstruction of congress would have been a lot stronger.
